OMG How they Grow

Hello All,

Well it's been a while since I updated the blog. Been busy with work and family things. The last couple of weeks I been noticing small little shadow from the growtubs. Haven't had the time to go out there in the morning to check what it might be.

Well today I went out there to my shock!!! The vines are growing so fast and 1 fine just reached the top of the grow tub. A couple of other ones are almost there too. Some are really small but the other are growing to fast.

I didn't thing they would reach that far at all. Now I have to thing about building the trillis. Tomorrow since I have more time I will post some pictures of the vines reaching the top of the tubes. I can't believe how a couple of weeks and the growtube help the vines grow quick.

Time for bed.

2 Weeks later

It's time again,
After installing the grow tubes now for about 2 weeks I could see some process going on. Some are growing a little slow but others are growing much faster. Just love how things are coming along.

Once I finished looking at all the grow tubes and making sure they are getting enough water. I went inside my house and looked out my kitchen window. Just love the way it looks and maybe next year I could make it bigger.
Just takes time and learning all the different stuff.

Well have a great nite.

Install GrowTubes

Well it's that time again to update the blog on the process of the vines. Well the vines have been planted, and some of the leaves are coming out. Im so happy they are growing can't wait to see some grapes.

Once I finished planting all the vines I started to install the grow tubes I bought from MDT Associates. Once I finished doing that they look so good. Almost like a real home vineyard... I also installed the water lines on each row.

We will see how it turns out in a couple of weeks if the grow tubes does help.

Keeping Vines Warm

Hello All,
Couple days after I planted my vines I was watching some videos on youtube about grape vines. One of the videos showed that new vines need to be cover up so you could trained them to grow straight up into your trellis and the grow tubes will keep them warm. I started doing my research and found some grow tubes that winerys use. After spending 2 hours trying to figure out how they work and prices for it. I found a couple websites that sell them.

I notice the most popular one is called
Blue-Xray http://www.growtube.com/ and the other one is called
MDT and Associates http://www.mdtgrow.com/

Both sites have some good information on how they work plus how to install them. I went with MDT since I could reuse them it's much easier to take off. I called there 888 number and spoke with MaryJo. She is a nice sweet lady that answered my questions for a first timer. I placed my order with her since she gave me a good prices on there grow tube (.75 each)

If you like to read on the grow tube I bought here is the link. "Clipper Double-Walled Grow Tube"

Looking forward to installing them.

"Welcome To Your New Home"

Went to the nursery to buy some mulch and other stuff I need around the house. I just finished planting my vines in their new home using the mulch I bought. The guys at the nursery said it would be okay to use the mulch on the vines.. The hill side looks so plain at the moment but in 1yr it will look much better. I read in my book "Vines to Wines" that new vines need to be water every day so the roots will grow. I will have to figure out how I could water then daily incase I forget.

Well it's time for bed.

Until Next Time.

Hello again,

After working on the hill side over the weekend I was able to clean the area and make the holes for the vines. I just want to thank rrawhide from "Fine Vine Wines" forums for offering to send me some vines.

From the picture you could see how I cleaned the area and some of the holes I made. The pix didn't come out well but you get the idea. I look forward to see what rrawhide will be sending me.

Until next time,

Getting Started

Hello Everyone,

My name is Luis but most people call me Louie or LuLu... A little about me. I work in the Information Technology as a network administrator. I been working in the I.T field for about 10 yrs or so. My hobbies are computers, playing video games on my Xbox and watching movies. My most recent hobbie I've started and been thinking about for a while is making wine.

For the last 5 years I been wanting to have my own vineyard and learn how to make wine. In the future I would like to have my own vineyard or something close to that. I think it's neat to grow grapes and have your own wine that you made from scratch.

I been doing a lot of rearch on line and found two great forums.. These forums are for new growers and wine makers.

1. http://forum.finevinewines.com/default.asp
2. http://www.winepress.us/

Some users from the forums gave me great advice on how to start and what I need to learn. The first thing I did was buy a book call "From Vines to Wines" by Jeff Cox. The book seems good so far since I started on Sunday April the 3rd.

I have already picked a place to grow my vines and see how it goes this year. I first need to clean the area, and make it nice and neat for the new vines.

Below is a current picture of the area I'm planning to grow the vines.

It's going to be hard work plus I'm up to it.

I will be updating this blog as I grow my vines from scatch. We will see how everything turns out down the road. Hopefully I will be able to help someone else who wants to start growing there grapes.
